Note from your Director of Coaching: Mark Benson

I want to congratulate all teams on an outstanding showing this past weekend. Everyone battled through the heat and performed very well, and looked great out on the field. I wanted to also extend a congratulations out the U14 Girls as they took 1st in their bracket. The club as a whole did great and we here with the Vermont Voltage are very proud of everyone. This week we will have training with the Voltage Staff coaches. This will be our final week of training so come prepared to have fun at practice this week.

This will close out the spring portion of our season however we will not end here. There are many things that we are looking to continue into with the Monument club this year, and even further build on this for next year. Some of the players will be contacted by myself to be invited to play as a guest player for another club that we are now starting to work with. This is the beginning of something great, and we look to really take what we are doing to another level with the Monument Soccer Club. Already within the last two years I have seen significant jumps in ability level from several individual players to the point that I am getting contacted by other teams that we have played against in the tournaments that we have played to say how well certain players have performed.

Again this is only the beginning. Last year we were able to establish a club and put it together to where everyone had a good time with the training and games. Now we have taken your training a huge leap forward with the ability to have current Semi-pro / Professional players at every single training session working with all of the players this year. An invaluable experience. This will continue with the idea that towards this fall we will look to continue with the current teams and stick together so that we are already organized for next spring even before winter hits. This will help us to get involved in not only tournament play but also league play as well.

I want to urge all players within our club to get together and do a camp together as a team. For example: The Monument Teams can come to an overnight camp of your choice, but again as a team, and train together. This is another chance as a player where you can build your level of play by getting a great bonding experience with your teammates, as well as play against other players in a professional training environment just like a professional team would. Where you literally eat, sleep, and breathe soccer together for a week of camp. After which we will look for those players to go and play for their school teams, however afterwards we will look to see teams place indoor teams in an indoor league together. Each of our Monument Teams has just about enough players from the U12 up to make 2 Indoor Teams each. Your soccer training doesn't stop in the spring if you are serious about this sport and want to take your ability to the next level, this is where it starts.

Again we are constantly looking into the future at all of your development. While you are training now, we are always looking at tomorrow to see what else can we do to develop each and every one of you in our club. We will provide any and all opportunities for you to train and get better as individuals as well as for our teams to have success in the games, and tournaments that we play in. Our goal is not to just compete, but next year maybe all of our teams take 1st in the tournament that we choose to play in. One more time we are very passionate about what we do, and your players development here at the Vermont Voltage, and the Monument Soccer Club. We will look to strive in every facet to make this club even better, and grow as we move forward. Great season one more time and I look forward to seeing all the players over the summer, and into the fall.

*Coming up this July 16th the Vermont Voltage will play their home game at Applejack Field, in Manchester, VT at 5:15pm. They will be playing the Western Mass Pioneers a big rival of the Voltage. This night will be dedicated as Monument Soccer Club night, and there will be FREE BBQ and Free Entrance to the game for Monument Players and Parents. All that we ask is that you please wear your Monument Club Jersey to the game as we will be taking a big Group Photo with the Voltage Senior Team that night. We have been thinking of a way to treat all of the players and families to a great night out after such a good season so we have come up with a great night of soccer and food for you to enjoy.

So, mark your calendars for the home game with your Vermont Voltage vs. Western Mass Pioneers at Applejack Field, in Manchester, VT at 5:15pm.

Monument Soccer Club has a great showing at the Green Mountain Challenge.

Vermont – Monument Soccer Club competed in the Green Mountain Challenge this past weekend and had a great showing. The U-18B, U-18G, U-14G, U-12B, U-12G, and U-10B all made the trip to represent the club at the tournament. The teams were coached by Kelly Brooks, Pierre Massena, and Mark Benson as well as a hand full of Vermont Voltage First team players.
All the monument teams play very well and put on a great show at the tournament. The U-14 girls’ team went 4-0 on the weekend and won the tournament for their age group. The U-18B and U-18G both went 1-1-2 but could have easily won 3 games each if they happened to be a little luckier. The U-12B and U-12G had the best performances of their season easily at this tournament with many players scoring goals, stopping goals, and placing some of the best teams in the region to the limits. The U-10B team also had one of the high points of the tournaments when in their last game the won 12-1.

Coming up this July 16th the Vermont Voltage will play their home game at Applejack Field, in Manchester, VT at 5:15pm. They will be playing the Western Mass Pioneers a big rival of the Voltage. This night will be dedicated as Monument Soccer Club night, and there will be FREE BBQ and Free Entrance to the game for Monument Players and Parents. Vermont Voltage and Carbone Auto team up to better serve the community.

Vermont Voltage News Release, Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Vermont – The Voltage no stranger to working in the community with our youth and now they will be able to do even more with their new partnership with Carbone Auto. “Carbone Auto Group, founded in 1929, is a large automobile dealer group with fourteen dealerships located in Utica and Troy, New York, and Bennington, Vermont. Franchises represented include GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Nissan, Dodge, Chrysler, Ram, Jeep, Honda, Hyundai, Subaru, Toyota, and Harley-Davidson. Carbone Auto Group is a 2013 Ward’s automotive top 100 megadealer. The group is committed to giving back to the communities it serves through its partnerships with numerous charitable organizations.
Arriving along with all the new Voltage players and the new partnership between the Vermont Voltage and Carbone Auto comes a new shoot-out contest to take place at the end of the Voltage season. Carbone Auto will be giving all fans that attend the Voltage home games a chance to enter a drawing to win a brand new car of their choice at the end of the season. Along with that, there will be countless half time promotions, prizes, and give-a-ways at all voltage games.Bo Vuckovic, GM of the Vermont Voltage and owner of the Bennington Sports Center is very happy and thankful for the opportunity to have a great partnership with Carbone Auto. “We are privileged to be able to work together and give more opportunities to young people across Vermont.” The Voltage strives to be able to help make many sports not just soccer a part of everyone’s lives. They want to promote a healthy life style for all in the community starting from the 3-5 year olds that participate in the Mini Volts programs to adults that play in our Men’s and CoEd soccer leagues with almost 80 players, and their CoEd outdoor beach volleyball league with almost 75 players; to the winter indoor soccer leagues has over 1500 participants. With Partners like Carbone Auto, the Vermont Voltage/Bennington Sports Center were able to improve its Monument Soccer Club which involves 7 youth teams; U-8 Coed, u10 boys, u12 boys & girls, u14 girls, and u18 boys & girls.

The partnership the Voltage and Carbone Auto has made the Voltages first team able to affect the lives of young people all over Vermont through their PDL league as well as their summer camps. “Everything we do at Voltage is to be a bigger part of community, and they (Carbone Auto) support all these programs and more.” Said Bo. This country is trying to stress to our youth how important it is to have a healthy life style and the Vermont Voltage is doing the same in our community. Voltages teaches Vermont’s youth not make better life choices through sports and exercise and sports; in hope that less of our children will be involved in the drugs and crime taking over our communities. Not only trying to educate our youth but also giving them role models is an important part of setting the correct example. The Voltage first team regularly works with kids to make them better athletes, but what you don’t see is the conversations they have with the kids they coach about the important choices that are needed to be made in order to have a good and healthy life. All this does not only affect the kids in our communities but other in the surrounding area also. Children from Northern Vermont, Western Mass, and Eastern New York also have been attracted to the programs provided by the Vermont Voltage/Bennington Sports Center with the help of Carbone Auto.

Monument Competes in Clifton Park Spring Classic Tournament

Clifton Park, NY – Monument Soccer Club took to the road this past weekend to compete in the Clifton Park Spring Classic tournament. The Under 18 boys, Under 18 girls, and Under 14 Girls represented Monument Soccer Club this past weekend. The teams were coached by Kelly Brooks, Alfred Karam, and Mark Benson respectively.

While the teams that competed did not get the results they were going for It was still a fantastic learning opportunity for the Monument Club as the players are not involved in any league play. It gave them a chance to work together as a team and sharpen their tactical skills. The team’s left the tournament gaining considerable experience, and played with a lot of heart, and passion. The Clifton Park Spring Classic was a great opportunity to put to the test the abilities of its players.

The coaches of Monument Soccer Club will use this to their advantage and continue to improve on and develop these young, energetic talented young individuals. Monument Soccer Club will be looking to improve on this past tournament and use it as a catalyst for success in their next play date which is still to be determined.

U-10B, U-12B, & U-12G Monument Soccer Club Compete in the May Day Classic Soccer Tournament

Wilton, NY. – Three of the seven Monument Club soccer teams traveled to Wilton New York to compete in the May Day classic. The Wilton Soccer Club hosts the Annual May Day Classic Outdoor Soccer Tournament in the beginning of May, at Gavin Park, in the town of Wilton. In past years over 100 Teams from Canada, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, as well as many local teams from CDYSL have participated in this soccer tournament. The U-10 boys' team competed in four matches on Saturday May 3; winning all of them. Along with an impressive display of skill, they managed to score 19 goals and concede only 2. Head Coach Pierre Massena said, "It was great to see the boys play so well, they showed a lot of skill and had a ton of fun; overall a great weekend for the team." The U-12 boys' team also found Success this weekend while going 2-1-1 over the two day tournament. They demonstrated a large amount of ability and talent as well as playing some of the most beautiful and attractive soccer in the tournament. However it was not only the boys' sides that showed promise this weekend. The U-12 girls also showed an exuberant amount of offensive force when defeating their last opponent 4-3. The girls never struggled hitting the back of the net during this tournament and hope for this streak to continue.
